Public Game Nights through October

Tabletop Library may just be the first board game membership club in the US, and we want you to be among the first to try it! While you might have heard of a chess club, or Elks Club, or even a membership library, this is a new kind of community we're building thanks to folks like you.

We're hosting a few events open to the public every week until the end of October. Some are designed for those who are game-curious and haven’t played anything more than Scrabble or Uno, and some are for the more serious gamers around us.

Open to the public events can be viewed here, but some of the highlights:

• Board Game 101: Fall in Love with Board Games — Wednesdays at 6:30pm. If the last board game you played was Monopoly or even Catan, this night is for you. We pick a few games that are quick to learn and hard to stop playing. No sweat, we teach them, you play. Every week we introduce a new genre and if you come to a couple, you’ll find something to love.
• Card Games with a Twist— Thursdays at 6:30pm, every week. Tricktaking and climbing/shedding are the oldest family of card games there are — Hearts, Spades, Euchre, Bridge — and the last few years have been a golden age for new ones. We’ll teach you a couple that take no more than 30-45 minutes to play. If you grew up playing cards with your grandparents, you already know most of the rules.
• Game of the Month — The Crew, a brand new Journey to the Ends of the Earth and our Game of the Month, through October 31st. Five minutes to teach, then 45-minutes of trying not to lose—together. We have sessions on the calendar and staff around to teach it.
• Open Puzzling — Contribute your puzzling prowess to completing Tabletop Library’s house puzzle of the week.

FAQs

Do I need to be a member?
No. That’s the point of this. You’ll need a free account so we know who’s coming and can save you a seat, but that’s it — no card, no membership.

What if I’m not any good at board games?
That’s totally okay! Board games are having a moment right now and that means most people are just getting into it. Somebody will teach you the game. Nobody is going to be annoyed that you don’t know the rules, and if they are, they’re in the wrong building.

Can I bring someone?
Yes. Bring two, more the merrier.

What if I want to come but none of these are my thing?
The rest of the event schedule is for members. Which means you can have a member invite you as a guest (they have 5 guest passes a month), or you can always attend your first event for free, or book a tour and have a look around.

How long does this last?
Through the end of October, and then we’ll see. If these nights are full every week we’ll keep them; if nobody comes, we’ll try something else. Tell us which it should be by showing up.
