Introducing Public Game Nights for Everyone

As far as we know, Tabletop Library is the first board game membership club in the US, and we want you to be among the first to try it! While you might have heard of a chess club, or Elks Club, or even a membership library, this is a new kind of community we're building thanks to folks like you.

For the month of September, we're hosting a few events open to the public every week. Some are designed for those who are game-curious and haven’t played anything more than Scrabble or Uno, and some are for the more serious gamers around us.

Plan your visit around some of these exciting game nights:

  • Board Game 101: Fall in Love with Board Games — Wednesdays at 6:30pm, starting September 23rd. If the last board game you played was Monopoly or even Catan, this night is for you. We pick a few games that are quick to learn and hard to stop playing. No sweat, we teach them, you play. Every week we introduce a new genre and if you come to a couple, you’ll find something to love.
  • Card Games with a Twist Thursdays at 6:30pm, every week. Tricktaking and climbing/shedding are the oldest family of card games there are — Hearts, Spades, Euchre, Bridge — and the last few years have been a golden age for new ones. We’ll teach you a couple that take no more than 30-45 minutes to play. If you grew up playing cards with your grandparents, you already know most of the rules.
  • Game of the MonthEternal Decks, our Game of the Month, through September 30th. It’s a cooperative card game out of Japan that went to number one on BoardGameGeek’s Hotness and was nearly impossible to buy in the US for months. Five minutes to teach, then 45-minutes of trying not to lose—together. We have sessions on the calendar and staff around to teach it.

In addition to these recurring events, we're previewing a new Kickstarter game from IV Studios on the 23rd, and an intro to roleplaying games with member Patrick B. on Tuesday, September 29th.

On Saturday, October 3rd, we’re kicking off our Grand Opening Weekend which is open to everyone, and the thing we’ve been building toward for two-and-a-half years. This includes special appearances by game and puzzle designers, Rita Orlov of PostCurious and Robert Hovakimyan of Bitewing Games and IV Studios; door prizes, learn-to-plays, and more!

FAQs

Do I need to be a member?
No. That’s the point of this. You’ll need a free account so we know who’s coming and can save you a seat, but that’s it — no card, no membership.

What if I’m not any good at board games?
That’s totally okay! These game nights are specifically for people who aren’t. Somebody will teach you the game. Nobody is going to be annoyed that you don’t know the rules, and if they are, they’re in the wrong building.

Can I bring someone?
Yes. Bring two and stay as long as you like that day.

What if I want to come but none of these are my thing?
The rest of the calendar is members-only for now, but you can still book a tour and have a look around, or become a member, and get the run of the place.

How long does this last?
Through the end of October, and then we’ll see. If these nights are full every week we’ll keep them; if nobody comes, we’ll try something else. Tell us which it should be by showing up.
